This might sound familiar…
You're a high achiever.
Driven. Motivated. Ambitious.
A Creative Powerhouse.
That's how they describe you.
You have an insatiable desire to learn, make, and grow. You know that success requires discipline and your commitment to your personal, professional, and creative development is incomparable.
You get excited by the thrill of a new challenge.
When others say they can't, you decide that you can...and will.
You choose the road less traveled because…
You know that change is in the journey, not the destination.
You aim for the top, but when you fall short, you don't stay down for long.
You might even be an F.O.D.
- The First in your family to earn the degree. -
- The Only one in your team to push the needle further. -
- Or the one your friend group says, is built Different. -
You are the Big Dreamer and Big Achiever.
You've had the dream.
Maybe you've accomplished the dream.
You might be living the dream right now.
Yet, something still feels "off"
And, you can't quite put your finger on it. Or,…
You know exactly what it is:
- You feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled. -
- Stagnation is slowly creeping in. -
- You're creatively tapped out. -
- But, more than anything… -
You feel stuck and don’t know where to go or who to turn to.
It’s hard to share because everyone believes you're "living the life".
You've earned the awards, you've gained the recognition,
you've beaten the odds, and you overcame the plateaus.
You've climbed a lot of mountains, but this one feels...different.
I call this The Gray.
It's the place where left is no different from right. Up is just like down. And forward and backward are now the same direction. It's the fog you can't quite figure out. The pressure that you can't seem to escape from. And the only companion that understands you...is you.
The Gray clouds your judgment in a dense haze. The whispered thoughts you pushed away become loud questions that can no longer be hushed. Happiness feels unfamiliar. Excitement is foreign to you. Deep down, you know there’s more to the game—and life—than this.
I know these feelings all too well because that was me, too.
In my late 20s, I accomplished my dream to be a professor. I became the person I didn’t have. The one who could make artwork and make art work. From industry to academia, I earned the accolades, delivered the keynotes, guided the teams, and spearheaded the national initiatives. I lived the dream, only to wake up in The Gray and whisper, "...I don't want to do this anymore."
I'm an F.O.D. as well.
- The First in my family to go to graduate school. -
- The Only Black faculty member in the department. -
- The “strong friend” because I’m built Different. -
It took me a few years to find my rhythm again.
And, I'll admit, it felt insurmountable,...at first.
But for someone like you and me, we don't give up easily.
Now, I guide creatives through The Gray and help them create the paths to their next level and next chapter.
So, I get it.
And if we work together,
I may get you.
Before we continue,
let me properly welcome you.
I'm Marq Mervin, your guide.
At different points in my life, I’ve been a creator, an educator, a researcher, and a wanderer, learning how to alchemize confusion into clarity and ambition into alignment.
Today, I work with high-achieving, multi-gifted creatives like you who sense there is more ahead, but can’t see the path clearly.
If you’d like to learn more about my story, you can do so here.
Welcome to The Dojo
The Dojo is a strategically and intentionally designed coaching experience to prepare you for the journey ahead. The essence of The Dojo is to clearly define your ambition(s), shed light on what’s preventing you from reaching them, and to co-create the pathway forward. This experience is rooted in:
Career Clarity
Strategic Direction
Mindset Expansion
Pathway Development
Creative Execution
Who I Work With
I tend to work best with people who hold a few particular qualities:
You've built real momentum in your career.
You’re ambitious, reflective, and forward-looking.
You’re willing to grow, even when it’s uncomfortable.
You feel called toward a new challenge and a new level.
If that’s true, let’s keep going.
How We Work Together
I believe professional growth is rooted in personal transformation. I also believe that every creative person requires their own unique and custom support. That’s why The Dojo is personal, reflective, and developed with intention.
Throughout 12 sessions, we use my GPS Framework to help you:
Go for the Goal and define what you’re actually working toward with clear, grounded direction.
Pinpoint the Problem(s) that’s getting in your way. Whether it’s lack of clarity, overextension, or misalignment, we bring it into focus.
Start & Sustain the Strategy that moves you forward. This blueprint isn’t built for you. It’s designed and crafted with you.
It's a different kind of frustration to be capable but unclear.
Trust me, I know.
But imagine this...
A Day in The Life of Your Next Level Self
Clarity instead of noise.
Creative energy that flows again.
Work that reflects who your passion and purpose.
Impact that feels meaningful.
Confident in the value you exude.
And most importantly—fulfilled and joyful.
That future isn’t imaginary.
It’s waiting for you.
The Dojo Commitment
The Dojo is a five-figure investment. This reflects the depth of the work we’ll create and build together. Here’s what you should expect:
You will be challenged because I believe in your potential.
You will be asked the gut-punching, soul-stirring, core-rattling questions that help you find your answers.
You will be reminded that this is your mountain to climb, but you aren't alone anymore.
You should be willing to face your fears along this journey.
You should also be prepared to put in the quality hard work to build your courage muscle.
And above all else, you must be determined to make the climb.
Our work together won’t be tied to urgency. You won’t be “fixed” because you aren’t broken. We work together slowly and intentionally so you can truly hear your inner Self.
I walk beside you, not ahead of you.
So, if you’re ready to work together…
I invite you to The Dojo.
After I receive your form, I’ll review it and respond to you within one week. If I think we’d work well together, I’ll invite you to a coaching call. This is complimentary, and there’s no obligation to move forward afterwards.
This is simply an invitation to a conversation.
